Breaker Morant

Breaker Morant is one of those movies that you stumble upon by pure chance. Being an Australian movie does not really help it either. But I consider this, a gem of a war movie in any of its sub genres. Placed in the time of Boer Wars in South Africa, this movie is about the cout marial of three Australian Commandos fighting for British. This movie is in equal parts court drama, historical, action, true story and one of the most philosphically deep movies. Satifying in entirety this movie shows the grey lines of morality in a dirty war fought between British Empire and the Dutch Setttlers in South Africa. Filmed in 1980 this movie can't be more relevant in this day. Absolutely powerful movie.

World War 2: Movie Recommendations

World War 2 is one of my favorite themes for fiction and movies. "War brings out the best and worst in a man" is a quote that holds true for all the world war 2 movies.. Here are my favorite world war 2 movies:

  1. The Longest Day (1962) info
  2. The Bridge On River Kwai (1957) info
  3. Guns Of Navarone (1961) info
  4. Saving Private Ryan (1998) info
  5. Enemy At The Gates (2001) info
  6. Where Eagles Dare (1968) info
  7. The Dirty Dozen (1967) info
Guns Of Navarone and Where Eagles Dare are based on brilliant novels by Allistar McClean. The Longest Day ofcourse refers to the day of invasion of Normandy, France by allied forces. Enemy At The Gates is about a hot shot sniper in the Red Army. Tom Hanks stars in the epic world war 2 movie Saving Private Ryan. The landing on the coast of Normandy is perhaps the greatest war movie sequence ever.

Romantic Comedy Recommendations

Subash asked me suggest some good romantic comedies from hollywood. I guess we all appreciate romantic comedies as we get older. Here are some movies you can laugh, cry and feel with.
  1. When Harry Met Sally
  2. Sleepless in Seattle
  3. You have got mail
  4. The French Kiss
  5. Dan in Real Life
  6. The wedding planner
  7. Notting Hill
The first four movies feature Meg Ryan, the sweetest actress ever. Dan in Real Life is one of the most recent ones. "The Wedding Planner" is perhaps the best movie J Lo ever starred in. Although I don't particularly like "Notting Hill", there is no way I can exclude it from this list becuase it is one of the most popular romantic comedies ever. In listing these movies the leading actresses proved to be the prominent criteria atleast for me.

Must watch Hitchcock Movies

I was not a big Hitchcock fan when I was a teenager and watched his movies for the first time. But now I have can see why his movies are classics. I bet there are hundreds of movies inspired at different levels by his work. I haven't watched all of his movies but I intend to watch them in good time. Here is my list of movies I liked so far , ranked ofcourse.
  1. Rear Window
  2. North by Northwest
  3. Strangers On A Train
  4. The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956)
  5. Psycho (1960)
The latest Hitchcock movie that I watched, Strangers On A Train had the most disturbing charectar(Bruno Anthony) I ever came across in a movie and the fact that such a chance encounter with such charectar can happen to any one of us is what makes the movie that much interesting.
